 Photo Flash: PEEPSHOW's Surprise Onstage Proposal

(5/21/2013) - Audience members were treated to a wonderful surprise as they were on-hand to witness the first onstage marriage proposal at PEEPSHOW at Planet Hollywood on May 18. Ensemble cast member Sophia Monica, who performs the "Teddy" number in Vegas' only striptease spectacular, in addition to filling in for the "Bo Peep" role when headliner Coco is out of the show, was caught off guard as her long-time partner and father of her son, Etienne Carreira bent down on one knee and proposed to her onstage in front of the PEEPSHOW cast and audience. Carreira is a professional break dancer and is also a trained dancer. To celebrate, Sophia also did an impromptu back flip (in heels) at the end, which made the audience go crazy with joy and excitement. Congrats to the newly engaged couple!

Among those performing tributes were Tony Award nominee Keith Carradine (Hands on a Hardbody, The Will Rogers Follies) and Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly's Last Jam). (5/21/2013) - Tony Award-winning producer Junkyard Dog Productions (Memphis) has just announced that leading man Zachary Levi, star of TV's 'Chuck,' Disney's feature film Tangled and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, will make his Broadway debut starring opposite Broadway and television ingenue Krysta Rodriguez ('Smash,' The Addams Family) in First Date, Broadway's new romantic musical comedy. With a book by Austin Winsberg ('Gossip Girl'), music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed) and musical staging by Josh Rhodes (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella) First Date is directed by Bill Berry (Producing Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre). Featuring Sara Chase ('Arrested Development,' The Toxic Avenger), Kristoffer Cusick (Wicked, Rent), Blake Hammond (Sister Act, Billy Elliot) and Kate Loprest ('Boardwalk Empire,' Hairspray), the cast of First Date also includes Vicki Noon (Wicked, Mamma Mia!). First Date begins performances Tuesday, July 9, 2013, and opens Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Broadway's Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Additional casting to be announced shortly.

(5/21/2013) - Luis Bravo's internationally acclaimed entertainment phenomenon Forever Tango, will return to the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 W 48thStreet), its original Broadway home, for ten weeks only with performances beginning Tuesday, July 9, 2013 through Sunday, September 15, 2013 and an official opening set for Sunday, July 14, 2013. Five-time Grammy Award-winner Gilberto Santa Rosa will star as the first special guest star for the first three weeks of the engagement. Future vocalist casting will be announced at a later date. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

The inaugural PIVOT MULTI-ARTS FESTIVAL answers the City's call for a reinvigorated Uptown Entertainment District by uniting artists, businesses and local organizations around multidisciplinary “pop-up” performances occurring in a former Vaudeville Theater, an at-one-time Charlie Chaplin film studio and other historic spaces throughout these communities. (5/21/2013) - The legendary Friars Club featured a night of Brazilian Jazz and cuisine in the Frank Sinatra Dinning Room last night. Produced by Howard Leder and Hosted by Stan Gilbert it was a typical Friars evening of good comedy, good music, and good food. Guitarists Vic Juris (USA) and Romero Lubamba (Brazil) provided the rhythms of Brazil and the Friars kitchen created some special delicacies for the evening. The Stone Brothers supplied the always available Friars humor for the event.

(5/21/2013) - Musical Monday Nights continue in the Cafe at the world famous Le Cirque restaurant. Elegant Sabrina Wender was the menu addition last night. A singer-songwriter, dancer and actress, Sabrina Wender has a true passion for the arts. She has recorded a CD of pop music in Italy and also has an in-depth knowledge of American Jazz and Swing music of the 30s and 40s. As a teenager, Sabrina attended summer courses at the High School of Performing Arts in New York and has continued to further her musical studies both in Europe and the U.S. She has composed original ballad songs and soundtracks for documentaries about Italy which she produced and edited herself. As a dancer, Sabrina studied ballet at the Royal Academy of Dance and jazz at the California Club in Milan and currently attends The Steps School in New York. She has performed in music videos for Sting and Zucchero in collaboration with choreographers Momix and David Parsons. Sabrina has appeared on various television programs, including the Italian TV Network RAI where she was the female lead performer on the Saturdayevening variety program "Rido.' She also studied acting at Thomas G. Waites Acting Studio in New York.

(5/21/2013) - Second Stage Theatre's Spring Gala celebration honored The Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, which has been an ongoing supporter of New York City arts and Second Stage Theatre for many years, as well as playwright and filmmaker Paul Weitz, whose plays Privilege, Show People, Trust, and Lonely, I'm Nothave all premiered with the off-Broadway company. The evening will also celebrate the first ten years of Second Stage Uptown and its curator, Christopher Burney, which has become an incubator for many theatre artists in the past decade. The gala was held last night, May 20, 2013 at Best Buy Theatre, 1515 Broadway at 44th street.
