That is a question I too have wondered about for years rosscoe. Having been involved with the Broadway production, the First National and London productions you'd just think...
Finally saw the Australian production this evening in a very empty Lyric theatre. The understudy was on for Tracy and she was wonderful, sadly the same could not be said for Trevor Ashley"s "Edna", a flat, lifeless performance. Jokes landed flat which was sad since the set up was so wonderfully done by all the other cast members.
The only time Trevor came alive was during "Priceless to Me", which was by than a little too late.
The rest of the cast where having the time of there lives and so was the punters Staging wise the screens where ok, at times way over done.
Enjoyed the night, glad I got to see Harvey at the bowl a few weeks back, cause that's how Edna should be done.
Wish the show had payed a different ( smaller ) theatre in Sydney. This was the one show that should not have flopped. But just goes to prove Sydney can not have three major shows running at the same time.
It's going to be a blood bath in the early parts of the new year, with Love, Annie and Rock all opening within Days of each other!
Dear Misery Guts, the song is "Timeless To Me", not "Priceless To Me". Are you sure you've seen the show twice?? Also, you "paid" for a ticket, not "payed".
Off course it is, I had a great time at the show. I thought Ashleys "Edna" was dull and lifeless. As I said everyone else around him was wonderful. He was not!
