STAGE TUBE: Trailer - THE OTHER PLACE Opens at Arts Centre Melbourne Tonight

Melbourne Theatre Company celebrates the opening of its 2013 season with the Australian premiere of The Other Place by Sharr White which opens tonight, 31 January 2013, 8pm at Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse. Directed by multi-award-winning film and theatre director, Nadia Tass with original music by Paul Grabowsky, The Other Place stars Catherine McClements and David Roberts. Check out the official trailer below!

From the moment Dr Juliana Smithton sees the girl in the yellow bikini, her life takes a disorientating turn. Desperate to heal the rift with her estranged daughter and in conflict with her husband, she finds herself immersed in a mystery that draws her irrevocably back to The Other Place. As past and present collide and fact blurs with fiction, Juliana's world unravels in conflicting, puzzle-like pieces until the truth unfolds in this gripping psychological drama.

Following successful off-Broadway and West Coast seasons, Sharr White's The Other Place receives its long-awaited Broadway debut in January 2013. The play gained the 2010 Playwrights First Award and was nominated for the 2011 Critics' Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play. White's other plays include Annapurna, Sunlight and Achilles in Sparta. In 2006 he was the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for his play Six Years, which premiered at the 30th Anniversary Humana Festival of New American Plays, with subsequent productions around the country.

Nadia Tass is one of Australia's internationally acclaimed film, TV and theatre directors. For MTC she has directed three Louis Nowra plays: Summer of the Aliens, Cosi and Miss Bosnia. Her other theatre credits include Promises Promises for The Production Company; The Aliens and The Gronholm Method for Red Stitch; and The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe which toured Australia and New Zealand and was honoured with a 2003 nomination for Best Direction of a Musical. She first gained recognition as a director for her internationally acclaimed feature film, Malcolm. Her other film credits include Rikky and Pete, The Big Steal, Mr Reliable, and Amy. In 2011 Tass was honoured with the Best Director award at Milan International Film Festival for Matching Jack, where the film also received Best Film and Best Screenplay awards.

Directed by Nadia Tass; Set Designer Shaun Gurton; Costume Designer Edie Kurzer; Lighting Designer Nigel Levings; Composer Paul Grabowsky; Sound Designer Russell Goldsmith. Cast: Heidi Arena (A Woman), Catherine McClements (Juliana), David Roberts (Ian), and David Whiteley (A Man).
